A Perfect Storm
A Perfect StormThis is my personal favorite shot from my collection, and for good reason: The experience. This shot was taken on October 30th, 2017 during a tropical storm that made its way up our coastline. The storm brought 70-80mph winds and some of the most brutal surf conditions I had ever seen. I was out in this weather fro sunrise to sunset. Conditions were completely un-shootable for the entire day, but I attempted to persevere. I did not. Not until that night! 3 hours before sunset I decided to make my way to Bass Harbor Headlight for the possible light show. Weather predictions showed the tail end of the storm revealing itself around sunset, so Bass Harbor was a great place to be. Sunset was also coinciding with high tide. It was looking like the prefect storm. Me and a friend perched up on the famous Tripod Rock and stood our ground for 2 hours, beating out the famous John K Putnam for this composition. As the sun set, a gap appeared on the horizon and the waves lit up. I desperately tried too keep the front element clean for this shot, and by dumb luck the best waves happened to be the best frames. I got the shot, and it is the one you see in front of you. There is no other shot like it, and these conditions will likely never be photographed again.
