Reaching Out at Bass Harbor

from 35.00

Ancient, sun bleached pine trees appear in certain spots along our coastline. They are most prevalent along the Schoodic costline, though there are some along Ocean Path. I have always admired them and wanted to feature them in a compelling composition. A few months back this tree caught my eye, and I decided to shoot it. Using an ultra wide angle lens, I was able to create perspective distortion emphasizing the very close features of the branches. It all came together when the sun set below the cloud shelf and the sun star appeared between the "fingers" of the branch of the tree. To me the tree looks alive, though it has likely been dead for years. I urge you to explore the Bass Harbor area to see what other hidden gems it has to offer. If you find this tree, spend some time with it as the sun goes down and watch it come to life. Or just grab a print and experience it that way!
